Gang violence is a threat to everyone that lives in Portland. Gang members are shooting up our shopping malls, our parks, and our homes. Gang violence is not just a black thing, it's a community thing. Gang violence is a problem that affects people regardless of race, economic status, or neighborhood. Everyone we care about in Portland is at risk. Please elect me so I can protect all of us from this threat-- a threat Steve Novick has done nothing to resolve for us. In 2015, there were 31 murders in Portland. 17 victims were black people, and 20 people were murdered by black gang members. If not for gang violence in Portland, The City of Portland would be one of the safest major cities in the world. Black lives matter, and every time a black person is murdered, the community loses. Each of these murders destroy the lives of the victim and the perpetrator. It also puts everyone within range of the shooting at risk.
