Award-winning SBS TV documentary on Australian cult VHS shop owner Andrew Leavold's attempts to save his Trash Video store.

From The Australian newspaper: "An affectionate and entertaining look at Trash Video, an independent Queensland video store specializing in cult movies. The dilemma with such an enterprise is that cult means beloved by a select few but not the mainstream which is not exactly the path to riches.”

ESCAPE FROM THE PLANET OF THE TAPES was filmed between 2000 and 2002, and first broadcast on Australian TV in 2003. The 30 minute documentary was co-directed by Brisbane husband-and-wife team Anthony Mullins and famed novelist Krissy Kneen, and produced by Mark Chapman and Melissa Fox.

After 15 years as a Brisbane icon, Trash Video eventually closed in 2010. Leavold has since become a filmmaker himself, helming the feature-length documentaries THE SEARCH FOR WENG WENG (2013) and THE LAST PINOY ACTION KING (2015).
