The summer, a kid and his bike... and a phenomenon that occurs when it rains gently on a very hot pavement.
"Great Pee Dee" refers to a large river that runs through the Carolinas and empties into the Atlantic near Georgetown, South Carolina. It was named after the Pee Dee Indians who lived along its banks at one time.
The Bike? A beautiful red Huffy with chrome fenders :o)
Riding My Bike On a Cloud Ronald Haselden July 2012
A Boy of 10 in the deepest part of Summer Riding my bike was the greatest thing to me Especially on a asphalt road that ran By our house and went clear down to Great Pee Dee
Now most roads were ole dirt roads where we lived But this road was all paved and mud-hole free One of the first roads paved in our little country town An asphalt ribbon clear down to Great Pee Dee
Now in the South in deepest part of Summertime That asphalt road would get so hot you'd not believe And if it rained at just the right time of the day A cloud of steam would form clear down to Great Pee Dee
It was then I would ride my bike I seemed to float upon this shroud Above the ground that I could not see Riding my bike on a cloud Riding my bike on a cloud Riding my bike clear down to Great Pee Dee
A Boy of 10 in the deepest part of Summer Riding my bike was the greatest thing to me
