17/10/2010 - Vatican City - Tens of thousands of people were with Pope Benedict in St Peter's Square today as he canonized six new Saints of the Church: St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop (1842-1909), the first Australian native, founder of the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart; St. André Bessette (1845-1937), the founder of St. Joseph's Oratory in Montreal; St. Stanislao Soltys (1433- 1489), a Polish religious; St. Candida Maria de Jesus Cipitria y Barriola (1845- 1912), the Spanish founder of the Congregation of the Daughters of Jesus; St. Giulia Salzano (1846-1929), the Italian founder of the Sisters Catechists of the Sacred Heart; and St. Battista da Varano (1458-1524), an Italian Poor Clare nun.
