Sunday June 9, 2013: Speaker of the NC House, Thom Tillis, stands in opposition to a resolution brought forward opposing HOT lanes. Tillis makes the argument that we must increase revenue in order to continue funding roads, though NC is among the top 10 states in the nation for highest gas tax, with no current legislation aimed at lowering the gas tax. Roads are considered by many to be a primary function of government. If NC government is unable to fund the roads, perhaps the leadership should look toward cutting other secondary functions' funding before initiating double-taxation on the items which many consider to be an actual necessary function of our state government.
