The mainstream media in the United States and abroad is reporting that Donald Trump is cutting the “Meals on Wheels” program. While this statement is technically true in it’s wording, the way it is presented is totally untrue because it is not using the proper context. First of all, the Federal Government cannot cut Meals on Wheels because it is not a Federal program. Second of all, while the Federal Government does provide some funding to Meals on Wheels, it is not the majority of their funding. About 35% comes from a fund established for Older Americans but that money will not be touched at all. Only about 3.3% which comes from “block grants” is the money that will be cut from Meals on Wheels. Which means 97% of the money (which largely comes from donations and private corporations) will still exist to fund the program. The “cut” here is only 3.3%. That does not equate to the entire program being cut, as many sensational headlines would have the average person believe.
