Link's Awakeining is an old Zelda title, definately the oldest one that we have worked with so far. It was released in 1993, and tells the strange tale of a mysterious island, where a giant egg rests upon the highest mountain top. The island, called Koholint Island, is inhabited by strange creatures that strongly resemble models from other nintendo games. It's all confusing, but at the same time interesting. Link's journey leads him towards the giant Egg, and finally the only thing standing between him and it is an almost impassable mountal range, called Tal Tal Heights, with the peak Mt. Tamaranch towering above. The theme of Tal Tal Heights is a creative variation on the Zelda main theme, with intense, quick arpeggios and key-changes.

This arrangement, made by us, took some effort to get right. First of all, we have switched seats. This is because the guy that now sits on the left needed a capo put on mid-song, but was unable to do so because he was playing contineously at the same time. We solved this by letting the guy now sitting on the right put it on for him. The melodies in the arrangement sometimes morph inte super-fast, three-note arpeggios. We are brave guitarists, so we faced them without fear, the guy on the right using a hard technique to recreate the 8bit madness. The teqnichue involves alternatively using the pick and the nail on the middle finger to rapidly pick the strings, using the pick on the way down and the nail on the way up. This way, we can play sixteenth notes while only really picking eighth notes. It's a hard techniwue that the guy now seated to the left has been practining for years, until now only using it in blues solos. The guy on the left takes on the chord progression, a great one, surprisingly not written by Koji "The Maestro" Kondo (actually none of the music for this game was written by him - only the end credits tune was co-composed by him and the other guys*). The progression is played with a very thin pick and a amazingly busy strumming pattern, which is hard to get right - every certain up-stroke MUST be emphazised, and every certain down-stroke MUST be more silent, otherwise it sounds like you can't play guitar. The thin pick helps to keep the chords a bit lower in volume, an also allows for a more fluent performance. Tal Tal Heights took many takes and a bit of tough editing to get right, but it was well worth the pain! Enjoy, gang!

[*edit: Minako Hamano and Kozue Ishikawa are not guys, but girls. They are known for thier work on the Metroid , Wario World and Starfox series . 72Hours are BUSTED for passive sexism]
