Pros and Cons of Fondant Cakes

My name is Barbara Esses and I do events for a living. I'm Ruthie Hecht; I'm an event planner and I work with and for my mother. We're going to teach you the do's and don'ts for the perfect wedding.
Fondant is a very, very hard cream that can cover cake. It takes on a certain brittleness so that it can hold anything one would want to put on it, so if one wanted flowers or seashells, or pearls, or some kind of big jewels, it can go into fondant, and the fondant will actually hold it. It's a thick covering for the cake, and it's extremely sweet. It's not the part of the cake that you wanna eat the most, and one could certainly wipe it off when it's put on the plate or, one can cut part of it off when one's actually cutting the cake and serving it. But it definitely is the strongest material to hold anything to give a cake a lot of umph and a lot of decoration, because when you use something like butter cream, it's soft and anything you would put in it, would fall out. And therefore fondant is used in cakes all over. It's also available in every color you could possibly think of, it can be painted, it can have texture, and while it's not the best to eat, it certainly makes a cake look the best.
