The printed circuit board industry routinely cross sections copper plated through holes and surface via, a process called microsectioning. Microsectioning has become a standard requirement of printed wiring board quality assurance due to the potential for subsurface defects, and for process control of copper plating thicknesses. This brief video describes the technique.
