Dinko Vulev, a Bulgarian vigilante helping the border police to catch "illegal" migrants, explained his actions in an interview conducted near his hometown of Yambol on Saturday.

SOT, Dinko Vulev, Bulgarian anti-refugee vigilante (Bulgarian): "Three times I had come here to drive my ATV. Each of these three times I caught immigrants. The third time was about February the 14th this year, while I was driving my ATV I saw a man coming on the way right here. He jumped over me, I came round him and after 10 metres I stopped and came back. Then he took out something sharp, just like a screwdriver and started to stab at me, he even stabbed me on the hand, right here. You can see the scar. Since then my reactions have been guided by the instinct of self-preservation, to defend myself. After he came two others came out, then eight more – altogether eleven people. I tried to defend myself and through my abilities, as I'm an elite wrestling coach, I managed it."

SOT, Dinko Vulev, Bulgarian anti-refugee vigilante (Bulgarian): "I live in Bulgaria and I'm not able to decide what happens in Bulgaria. There are more significant people than me, who are able to decide. I can only suggest an idea. I actually do this because of patriotism. I am a Bulgarian, I have a visa for America, I've lived in England, I have an English passport, I have a 10-years visa for America, but I want to be in Bulgaria. I was in America for ten days, but I can’t live in such a country. I do love Bulgaria. I am a patriot although I do love Russia, I love Russian things, Russian technology. I hope that one day, everything will be better and the situation will be resolved in a normal way”
