This song is ofcourse the Johnny Cash-treatment of the old traditional folksong 'Barbara Allen' . Cash did several versions of this song during his career. The last time for the Mercury-album 'Johnny Cash is coming to town'. It also appeared on the 1977-album 'The last Gunfighter Ballad'. This version however is the first recording of the song on april 11 back in 1973 from the same session that gave us the single-record 'Praise the Lord and pass the soup' back in 1973. 'Sister, you can ... bang on your tambourine... just let my body be fed!' This version of 'Barbara' was used as the B-side to that single only in july 1973 (Columbia Records 4-45890)
Enjoy it!
