6. Variety in food: Let us continue our efforts to stop ageing now, in 2 minutes. The first magic pill of food requires 3 conditions, of which the first two - pleasure and moderation – we have already talked about. The third condition for food that makes you happy in moderation and will keep you healthy is the variety. I can give you a scientifically formulated and nutritionally perfect food dish according to your taste and pleasure, but you have to eat it all three-four times of the day, day in day out – what will happen? Will you stop ageing? No, you are going to become miserable – physically, mentally, socially in every which way. So, the third condition for the food for health and life is the variety. Having a wide variety and range of food components, food styles, tastes, spices, flavours is very very important for making food good for you. Give a break of one or two days before repeating the same type of food. There are serious scientific reasons behind this need of variation, and those we will talk about in a later 2 minute slot. Here I would like to wind up this talk about food for health and for stopping ageing by reminding that food with pleasure, moderation and variety is the first magic pill for stopping ageing – if you are still fixed on stopping ageing now. Then there is one last step of making food do its magic, and that is when food becomes a meal – the context, and the company in which food is consumed.
