The ASSERT (ASSERT stands for the 'Application of Science to Simulation based Education and Research on Training') for Health Centre is a state-of-the-art, simulation-based medical and healthcare training centre located in University College Cork.
The School of Medicine (UCC) in partnership with the Health Service Executive and the Higher Education Authority launched the ASSERT for Health Centre to promote clinical learning, through the use of simulation, by undergraduate and postgraduate health professionals in the southern region of Ireland.
The overriding aim of the ASSERT for Health centre is to improve patient safety and reduce avoidable clinical error by training our healthcare professionals with the highest standards of procedural skills and incorporating human factors science in our team training.
Simulation offers a safe environment to practice skills dealing with high stakes medical emergencies with no negative effect to real patients. Simulation is a useful tool to train healthcare professionals' effective teamwork and communication skills in dynamic and complex critical events, which is essential for safe patient outcomes.
