Complementing organic growth by pursuing new business and acquisitions in a variety of growth customer packaging and other industrial consumer markets and product segments such as African emerging markets, speciality glass and glass packaging, and glass tableware.

Strictly speaking, the Consol brand has existed since May 1946 when it was incorporated as "Consolidated Glass Works Ltd." And set about building a flagship factory at Wadeville in Germiston, Gauteng. In reality though, Consol had its start in January 1944 when a young Johannesburg finance house aquired a pioneering glassworks in Pretoria. The finance house was Anglovaal, and the modest Pretoria Glass was the foundation on which the Consol brand of today was built.

For many years, Consol stayed true to its origins and produced only glass containers and tableware. In 1954 it merged with its only rival, Union Glass of Talana near Dundee in Northern Natal, founded in 1918. In 1956 Consol built a new glassworks in Bellville in the Cape and in 1982 a sixth glass factory was opened at Clayville in Midrand.

Today, some 60 years on, Consol remains a resolute and robust brand, delivering superior glass packaging and impacting positively on peoples lives, daily.

Behind every Consol Glass product is a good woman or man. Lest we not forget, our products are only as good as our people. To build a world class brand it takes passion, pride and commitment of people. At the centre of excellence, it is people that produce products for us to use and enjoy. In the Consol business it is not an option, it is an imperitive.

Our brand - functionally can be described as delivering products to consumers in a manner that is safe, sterile, health conscious, versatile and convenient with the ability to preserve taste. Consol Glass, adds nothing and leaves nothing... 100% recyclable and re-usable.
