Talented New Director Sheldon Candis explains that the theme of his first movie LUV is, well, LOVE - Woody the 9 yr old child's Uncle Vincent definitely loves his nephew but doesn't have the skills to properly express that love - a situation that anyone who can remember being a child or looking after a child can surely relate to. LUV is a hard hitting, poignant, out of the ordinary Gangster story set on the streets of Baltimore which beautifully illustrates through sensitive well rounded characterisation & gutsy acting, some all too common, painful & difficult to reconcile human truths: - that just because parents love their children doesn't mean they have the skills to not abuse & damage them, & that just because parents abuse their children doesn't mean they don't also love them; that for certain 'at risk' children, the craziness they're exposed to at a very young age at the hands of their adult carers forces them into making impossible choices which leave them scarred & destined to repeat the same mistakes & pass them on to their own children unless the cycle of abuse is interrupted through some kind of therapeutic/restorative intervention.
