he said I will have six years in prison.
First Last
He said the judge would give him 6 years. If he got 4 years, this would contradict the lie of the statement. However, if he got 6 years, this would prove his statement true, and this prison sentence would only be for lying. It would be a paradox either way, so the judge would be forced to just let him go free!

he says that the judge will send him to prison for six years. because this the truth of the statement is dependent on a action that is dependent on the truthfulness of the statement a paradox is established. any resolution to the scenario then requires the judge to go back on his word and break the premise of the riddle. but why free him instead of holding him in contempt until he can think of something better? and why isn't such strange a method of sentencing getting the judge n trouble with the bar or some sort of judiciary review?

you won't put me in prison.
First Last
That would have to be false, and he would be put in prison. However, if he said, "You will give me 6 years", this would contradict both prison sentences. He wouldn't get 4 years because he would be lying and receive the 4 years at the same time- a contradiction. He wouldn't get 6 years because This would make his statement true, and that sentence would only be for lying. Therefore, the judge let him go.
