Jeremiah's heart ached for God's people. He gave them the Word of the LORD many times, yet the people would not listen to the LORD's warnings. God's people were rebellious. They were continually unfaithful to the LORD, though the LORD was continually FAITHFUL.
Eventually, God's people were going to understand how great their sin and rebellion was and they would repent. Until that happened, they would have to bear the just consequences of their unfaithfulness.
A new covenant, however, was going to be made with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. It was NOT going to be like the covenant God had made with those who came out of Egypt. This new covenant would be such that the law of God would be written in the minds and on the hearts of God's people. God people would KNOW THE LORD.
For those who thought that Israel was going to cease as a nation, the LORD said to them 'NO,' Israel would always be a nation before the LORD. The covenant God had made with Israel would never be broken.
