The House Judiciary Committee discussed House Bill 171, a statewide fairness measure that would outlaw discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. It was the first time such a proposal has been heard by a Kentucky legislative committee. Former Police Sergeant Kile Nave was fired by the Audubon Park Police Department in Louisville in 2012 for being gay. He hopes his experience can advance the push to extend civil rights protections to gays and lesbians. Nave spoke on March 5, 2014.
