SideReel correspondent Ruba caught up with Anika at the 2012 Eye on Black Salute red carpet, and she provided some interesting details on why her character Corinne is more than just a thorn her brother's side.
"I'm playing Corinne Bennett, Taye Diggs' sister. She suffers from bipolar disorder and she has come into his life after being gone for twenty years. Which is important for us as black Americans... I think that we tend to push mental illness under the carpet and it's something that we need to talk about, that we need to recognize so that we can move our way to helping to heal our sisters, our brothers, our mothers, our children, our friends. Cause if we don't talk about it, we can't fix it."
