When I'm not training for horse trials / eventing or preparing for a marathon, I love to play polo. It's like hockey on horseback. I'm fortunate enough to be able to play with the Gray family -- Daryl and Jacquelyn, and their sons Sam, Chris and Jonny. Tonight, Mary-Anne Maloney joined us and the teams were the kids against the adults. But we don't give the boys an inch -- since each of one of them could hit a ball from one end of the 600 meter field to the other at a full gallop in just a few swings.
I should mention that these informal games are sort of like a road hockey game. No ref (umpire) and we start out with one team bringing the ball out from their zone, as opposed to having a "face off" (roll-in) at centre ice (mid-field). When one team scores, the zones change and the scoring team brings the ball out from their new zone.
