On April 27, 2016 before the sun came up, the people in Eastchester Garden were awakened to the thump of helicopter rotors and blinding searchlights from overhead throughout the complex. Some 700 Militarized NYPD and Feds, ALL in Combat Gear/Battle Fatigues ran into the buildings with their helmets and protective vests with battering rams and outside waiting were armored trucks. To many, this would be a scene from either a War movie or the 6PM News about the United States at war with another Country. What it was, was a Raid on the Community in the Bronx.
120 youth from Eastchester Gardens housing in the Bronx were arrested by U.S Immigration, Homeland Security, NYPD, Drug Enforcement and U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tabacco, Firearms. A week after the Gang Raid NYPD, Andy King and the new Bronx D.A. Darcel D. Clark had a Town Hall Meeting with the residents of the complex. One thing was loud and clear, the residents were in an uproar on how the whole thing was handled.
