BABIES for Imogen Evy

Babies cannot be fooled
They grow wings
jump out of playpens
They will not play
with small toddler toys
They want real bikes and cars
They grab pens and indelible markers
from mother's hands
Babies don't want to be babies
They run faster than wind
try to make the stroller
go 100 miles an hour down an open stretch
They grab control
and if they aren't heard,
they yell, loud
They throw themselves
on the ground, screaming, in plain view of
matrons
policemen
jail guards
mothers
nannies
any law enforcement body
but they are never arrested
"Oh", they say, "Just a baby."
