Everyone knows how difficult it is to see underwater, and not for fear of opening your eyes - but because of the difficulty in distinguishing distances, shapes, and focusing light. The same is true when we look through our atmosphere at the stars. This video explains why stars "twinkle" and in part two how astronomers are reducing the effects of this twinkling on astronomical observations.
