This is the church where the Patriarch of Constantinople (currently Bartholomew I) conducts Mass. People enter and exit from the side of the church. The front of the church was sealed to honor Ecumenical Patriarch Gregorios V of Constantinople, who was executed on the steps of the church on 10th April 1821 - and left hanging for 3 days by the Ottomon Turks for his alleged role in encouraging Greek independence.
