Godowsky (1870-1938) wrote this piece in Los Angeles in October 1919. It is part of a set of '30 moods and scenes in triple meter' . The title 'Triakontameron' is a derivation of Bocaccio's 'Decameron'. These two pieces were written in January 1920 and August 1919 respectively. The Enchanted Glen depicts the light and shade of the Watkins Glen Gorge, near Seneca Lake, New York State - see http://www.galenfrysinger.com/gorge_w... for photos. To me, 'The Temptress' depicts the Vienna of Richard Strauss rather than Johann.
