The Organización Femenina Popular (OFP, Feminist Popular Organization), one of KAIROS' five partners in the Women of Courage: Women, Peace, and Security program, has released a video on the alarming situation faced by human rights defenders and social leaders across Latin America, and especially in Colombia where seven defenders have already been murdered in the first weeks of 2019 [Update: Since the video was produced, another defender was killed, bringing the total to eight so far this year]. The video highlights the work of defenders and details some of the ways they are criminalized, harassed, and physically attacked. In the video, the OFP also outlines the measures that they argue need to be taken by the Colombian state to ensure the physical safety of social leaders and human rights defenders in post-Agreement Colombia.
