Bryce Canyon shows how the kill zone was unavoidable, and how it was setup in advance to be exactly that. The road block from hell which was designed to trap and kill anyone entering it.

You'll see how LaVoy was avoiding ice on the highway while approaching the blind corner, how the rented FBI vehicles blended in with the background with no warning lights, how little time LaVoy had to respond once he spotted the road block, and how most of the shooting was done by an OSP SWAT team member who wasn't even supposed to be included in the road block.
