Dr. Alex Hills, "Father of Wireless Andrew," explains, "The idea was to establish a research initiative at INI by pooling ongoing faculty projects to create something bigger." Quite the understatement, Hills vision evolved into the wireless Andrew project-a precursor to today's WIFI networks.

Alex encourages a new generation of professionals to devote themselves to solving poverty, health and the social ills that face the world, often in developing nations. For many students, this life-changing experience, refocuses their lives. For others, it brings about a commitment to part-time work using their expertise to help others.

About TEDx
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
