A trailer for the world premiere The Passion, a landmark site-specific production for Easter 2016 by award-winning charity Streetwise Opera and world-leading ensemble The Sixteen in association with Manchester’s international centre for contemporary visual art, theatre and film, HOME.
This extraordinary new opera comprises Bach’s iconic oratorio St Matthew Passion and a new ‘resurrection’ finale which has been jointly written by Streetwise Opera’s performers and celebrated composer Sir James MacMillan. Directed by Penny Woolcock, audience members will be guided around the imposing Victorian iron and glass surrounds of Manchester's Campfield Market.
Video created by Dean Brocklehurst. Footage from Streetwise Opera's The Answer to Everything film, The Sixteen rehearsals, Campfield Market, and Streetwise Opera workshops at the Booth Centre, the Whitworth Gallery, and Methodist Central Hall.
Streetwise Opera is an award-winning charity that uses music to help people who have experienced homelessness make positive changes in their lives. We do this through music programmes in homeless centres and arts venues across England, and by staging critically-acclaimed opera productions starring our performers.
