How to Crochet a Double Treble Crochet Stitch (dtr) Video Tutorial. This is a U.K. Stitch. In this video tutorial you will learn how to make a slip knot, foundation chain, crochet turning chain, a UK Double Treble crochet stitch along the 1st and 2nd rows.

Double Treble Abbreviation in UK Patterns: dtr

US Equivalent Stitch: Triple (or Treble) Crochet (tr or trc)

You will find that the double treble crochet stitch is a very tall stitch.

Because it is a tall stitch this means that it has a lot of space between the stitches and is very airy.

This stitch can be used to make projects quickly especially blankets, pillow cases or anything that requires a large even coverage of fabric.

If you know how to do a treble crochet stitch this will be a breeze for you.

To crochet a Double Treble Stitch use the following instructions:

After having made a foundation chain, let's start the 1st row:
1. Wrap the yarn over the hook twice
2. Skip 4 chain stitches and insert your hook into the top loop from front to back of the 5th chain stitch
3. Yarn over hook once
4. Draw yarn through the chain stitch
5. Yarn over the hook once
6. Draw through two loops on the hook
7. Yarn over hook once
8. Draw through two loops on the hook
9. Yarn over the hook once
10. Draw through last two loops on the hook

You've completed a Double Treble Crochet Stitch.

You would continue on making double treble crochet stitches into each of the chain stitches along the foundation chain to the end.

Once you've completed the above, it's time to start on the 2nd row:
1. Turn your work
2. Make 4 chain stitches (this is called a crochet turning chain which brings the yarn up to the height of a double treble crochet stitch and is counted as 1 double treble crochet stitch)
3. Wrap the yarn over the hook twice
4. Insert your hook into both loops from front to back of the 2nd stitch
5. Yarn over hook once
6. Draw yarn through the stitch
7. Yarn over the hook once
8. Draw through two loops on the hook
9. Yarn over hook once
10. Draw through two loops on the hook
11. Yarn over the hook once
12. Draw through last two loops on the hook

You've completed a Double Treble Crochet Stitch on the 2nd row.

You would continue on making double treble crochet stitches into each stitch along the 2nd row to the end; making the last double treble crochet into the top of the crochet turning chain on the row below (this would be the 3rd chain stitch of the previous crochet turning chain.)

Repeat row 2 for all following rows to make a fabric out of the double treble crochet stitch.
