The Backhand Hitch is a very easy to tie, yet very strong knot. It will not come undone under heavy weight and for this reason it is excellent for securing items. It can be used to secure items to a pole or a rail. I use it to tie bags and other items to my motorcycle.

Good knots are always easy to untie and this knot is no exception.

I am writing the instructions here.
1. Pass the rope over the pole/rail.
2. Make a cross with the longer portion on the right and the shorter on the left.
3. Pass the shorter end of the rope under the pole and then pass over the pole.
4. Put the shorter end over the longer end and tie a knot.
5 Again put the shorter end over the longer end and make a second knot.
6. That's it.
