George C. Prendergast, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Lankenau Instiute for Medical Research in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, will discuss the way an entrepreneurial approach in academia and other research institutions can advance biomedical research and enhance human health. Prendergast is a cancer researcher with a Ph.D. in molecular biology from Princeton University. He joined the Lankenau Institute in 2002 and has been its president since 2004.
With experience in the pharmaceutical industry as well as academia, Prendergast is recognized for his expertise in cancer biology, signal transduction, and molecular therapeutics. In his career he has become known as an innovator who has the ability to translate basic research findings toward clinical application, most recently in developing a novel drug-like therapy to improve the immune response against a cancer.
