On 31st May 1911 a violent thunderstorm washed open three entrances to ancient stone quarry workings near Merstham, in Surrey. Exactly 100 years later ten explorers from Wealden Cave and Mine Society commemorated this event with a visit on which only illumination using naked flames was allowed!
