High performance computing is an integral part of modern statistics research, whether applied or methodological. This talk is a brief introduction to a small slice of high performance computing, aiming to provide a mental model for GPU computing and a practical introduction to cloud computing with an extensive live demo of setting up R / RStudio and Julia / Jupyter in the Amazon EC2 cloud service.

This is part of the Graduate Lecture series for MSc and DPhil students in the Department of Statistics at the University of Oxford.
