Andrew, who usually goes by "Critch", just finished his PhD in mathematics at UC Berkeley. Critch's interest in rationality began as a teenager growing up in a small fishing village in Canada, where he says he "just had a lot of time to think about it." In 2011, he began working on CFAR, a non-profit dedicated to harnessing breakthroughs in the study of cognition to improve human decision-making. Critch is also a composer, tree-climber and claims that if you've ever seen a Newfoundland dog playing on the beach, you've seen into the limbic system of Andrew Critch.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
