Consolidated B-24J 42-95591 USAAF February 28, 1945 a routine training mission ends tragically with an In-flight break-up in sever turbulence over rugged Riverside County Mountains. Nine crewmen were killed, and one crewman, engineer Cpl. Paul J. McKeever miraculously survived with serious injuries. Clp. McKeever had been ordered to manually open the bomb bay doors to facilitate crew bail-out when he was ejected from the disintegrating B-24J.
