In 2006 Blake Nelson published a young adult novel entitled Paranoid Park, that has been adapted into a film by director Gus Van Sant, which was released in 2007. Blake's story deals with a 16 year old skateboarder who accidentally kills a security guard at a skate park. Both the novel and the film take place in Portland, Oregon, although Blake/Van Sant's Paranoid Park is a skate park located on Portland's East Side.
The story revolves around a teenage skateboarder who accidentally kills a security guard. It premiered at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival as one of the 22 films in competition, and won the extra-special 60th anniversary prize.
