Whistle-blowing website Wikileaks has exposed alleged links between Brazil's new acting President and the United States.
The leaked cable reveals that Michel Temer, then a federal lawmaker, gave sensitive political briefings to US diplomats ahead of Brazilian elections in 2006. The leak shows summaries of conversations he had with American officials. The cable further reveals that Temer acted as an embassy informant for US intelligence. In the cables, the interim president speaks of potential plans for his centrist party to mount an electoral challenge to Brazil’s then leftist President, Lula Da Silva. Lula is seen as a key ally of suspended Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff.
