Dr. Flavia Fleischer and husband Dr. Will Garrow attended UVU's Deaf Studies conference Beyond Talk in April 2012. They discuss the new ASL based language house opening in the fall of 2012 near Utah Valley University. Both professors taught at UVU for several years. Dr. Flavia Fleischer is the new Chair and Associate Professor of the Deaf Studies Department. She received her Ph.D. in Linguistics from Gallaudet University in Washington, DC. She also holds two M.A. degrees, with the first in Interdisciplinary Studies (Deaf Studies, Deaf Education & Linguistics) from CSUN and the second in Linguistics from Gallaudet University.CSUN. Dr. Will Garrow, Assistant Professor in the Department of Deaf Studies, is from upstate New York, where he was first introduced to the Deaf community through snowboarding. Ever since, he has been very involved with the Deaf community. He holds a B.A. degree in Deaf Studies from Gallaudet University, and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees are in Linguistics, also from Gallaudet.
