Richard Ben Cramer's seminal book on politics, What It Takes, is arguably the best book ever written about presidential character, with a depth that became a style guide for many contemporary political writers. It is also the definitive book on Bob Dole.

Mark Zwonitzer, writer, director, and producer of PBS's "The American Experience," served as research assistant on the book and the two men developed a personal and professional friendship that lasted up until Cramer's untimely death last year.

Zwonitzer visited the Dole Institute to discuss Cramer's craft and to remember the writer, and to discuss his acclaimed work "What It Takes".

Filmed on October 30, 2013 at the Dole Institute of Politics.
