The 21st annual Defiance community "Outdoor Stations of the Cross" was held Friday, April 6, 2012 in Defiance, Ohio. This eight-block ecumenical journey commences outside St. Mary Catholic Church, made the short trek to St. Paul Lutheran Church, moved to Thurston Street past the new municipal court building and concluded at St. John Catholic Church on Jackson Avenue. This year's theme was "The Way of Sorrow." There were 14 stops along the way to read scripture and pray in remembrance of the 14 stations of the Via Dolorosa. The 14 stations of the cross are: Jesus is condemned, Jesus carries his cross, Jesus falls for the first time, Jesus meets his mother, Simon helps Jesus, Veronica wipes Jesus face, Jesus falls again, the women weep for Jesus, Jesus falls for the third time, Jesus is stripped, Jesus is nailed to the cross, Jesus dies on the cross, Jesus is taken down from the cross and Jesus is placed in the tomb. The annual event is facilitated and planned by the Defiance Guadalupe Society.
