Part Two of Tom Harpur's series on near death experiences.

I think this whole interest in hellish near death experiences is simply a bogus freak show.

However, I will tell you about meeting Maurice Rawlings, on the Geraldo Show. Dr. Rawlings is a very very cool Dude. We are sitting in the "green room", when Geraldo strides in, all cocky and ready. He is obviously thinking this is all bogus baloney, but is so full of himself, it is just as obvious that he doesn't care if we were going to be talking about pizza joints. It's all about him anyway.

Dr. Rawlings is an obvious target for a cynical man like Geraldo. Dr. Rawlings is an outstanding Cardiologist and an extremely sincere honest man. Geraldo is talking to him as if Dr. Rawlings were a three year old, "so tell me, do you REALLY believe in near death experiences", "do you REALLY believe there is a real hell".

Finally, Dr. Rawlings gives Geraldo a piercing glare that should have sent him straight to hell and says "young man, if I told you what I have REALLY seen, you couldn't handle it. It would curl your little waxed mustache".

There was absolute silence on the set. Geraldo said absolutely nothing. I was sitting next to Dr. Rawlings and even though I don't really get all this hell stuff, I just wanted to give Dr. Rawlings a high five. Afterall, this man has personally resuscitated dozens of patients who told him they were in hell. He was at that time, the Cardiologist for the Pentagon and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Give him some respect! He saw what he saw, just I did, just as others did. He is an honest sincere man, whose experiences caused him to convert to Christianity himself.

Then Geraldo sort of gulped and said, "okay, so ready in five minutes" and walked off the set.
