Jam is a hands-on learning experience that uses Osmo’s proprietary Reflective Artificial Intelligence to turn the area in front of an iPad into a playspace controlled by physical blocks. An open-ended music studio with dozens of characters and instruments, Jam is intuitive enough for a 5-year-old to play, but offers enough complexity for a 10-year-old to master. Starting at $59, Jam builds on Osmo’s work creating tangible programming languages that research from MIT and Northwestern has shown is most effective for teaching kids.

Here’s how it works:
Each physical code block contains a unique command - like drum roll, trumpet bugle or piano chord - that can be sequenced with other commands to create a looping song
Record and dub over loops to make more complex songs - and code
Progress through different genres and moods, learning about chord changes and other music fundamentals
