This is sort of the way it’s gone for Roger Federer in the past three years: Score a huge win, like his Dubai finals victory over Novak Djokovic, then lose to an unheralded player. In this case, it was a child of no more than 12 who came down from the stands, borrowed Grigor Dimitrov’s racket during the players’ exhibition at Madison Square Garden, and perfectly lobbed Federer for a winner.

That kid knows the game plan: Make those 33-year-old legs run.

Dimitrov went on to “win” the exhibition 6-2, 1-6, 7-5. Federer would say the child’s lob was the turning point of the match. So as long as The Fed doesn’t come across any pre-teens in his Indian Wells draw, he shouldn’t be worried at all.
