Founded by a group of academicians and practitioners, the Salam Institute for Peace and Justice is a nonprofit organization for research, education and development on issues related to conflict resolution, nonviolence, peace building, human rights and international development. The Salam Institute's main focus is to promote dialogue and understanding among Muslim communities as well as bridging the gap between eastern and western cultures including Muslim and non-Muslim communities by promoting inter-faith and inter-cultural dialogue and advancing the integration of local traditions and values. The Salam Institute aims at raising awareness of people, groups and policy makers on issues related to superiority beliefs based on religion, race, ethnicity and gender. This is done through providing scholarly and professional expertise and services on various dimensions of political, socio-cultural, religious, and economic aspects of conflicts in Islamic context. The Salam Institute's guiding principles encompass inclusivity, justice, equality, non-violence, peace-building and conflict resolution.
