National Award winning I Am Kalama's director Nila Madhab Panda's second feature film Jalpari - The Desert Mermaid, produced by Sushikumar Agrawal of Ultra Distributors, started its international journey with a screening at the this year Cannes Film Festival.
Talking about his cinematic journey, this young articulate director says, "It's wonderful. It's like putting your heart and soul into one thing. Now he is all set for his next film Jalpari (The desert Mermaid) which is both meant for adults and children. "It's about skewed sex ratio that concerns Indian society. It's about male-centric view of the world we live in," he says. He feels in the end cinema is all about telling stories. "To be fair, I Am Kalam is not about children only. I feel we are missing stories in our lives. Our cinema has lost the art of story telling to a great extent even though as Indians most of us grew up with stories."
Nila Madhab can be an inspirational story for many young film-makers who want to tread on the less-taken path.
