In scripting a persuasive essay, my 7th Grade students overwhelmingly selected In-N-Out Burgers as their all-time favorite fast food establishment for creating a persuasive animated commercial. They explored how to persuasively write to convince consumers to visit In-N-Out Burgers (In-N-Out is a popular fast food burger restaurant on the west coast). The reasons to eat In-N-Out burgers are: (1) the large meat patty size; and, (2) the fresh (not frozen) meat. As par for the course with persuasive writing, a counterargument is included. In the end, the counterargument is overruled with the "Big and Fresh" aspect of In-N-Out fresh meat patties.

There were a couple of scripts generated for the video, and following is a second version which can be utilized for instructional purposes (YouTube doesn't allow for indenting, but the words can be copied/pasted into a word document and adapted).

Have you ever been on the run and found yourself far from home when it's time to eat? When you're starving, fast food can be a smart choice for intelligent consumers. There are plenty of fast food hamburger joints, but the most popular is In-N-Out. In-N-Out has the best hamburgers because of the size of the hamburger patty and the burger's fresh meat.

One reason that everyone loves In-N-Out hamburgers is because the meat patties are huge. They're at least 2 ½ times larger than other fast food hamburgers. People are completely full after eating In-N-Out burgers. The big, beefy hamburgers are a meal, not a snack. Also, customers are happy to wait in line to buy these big, delicious, and juicy hamburgers. No one ever complains because it's worth the wait. They'll happily chat with other customers while their fat, beefy hamburgers are made to order.

Another reason that In-N-Out hamburgers are fantastic is because of the fresh meat. Most fast food restaurants use frozen meat. However, fresh is better than frozen. Of course, the benefit to fresh is no frostbite. Just by taking a bite, intelligent people's tastebuds can tell the fresh difference. The hamburger tastes meatier. Some people joke there's a cattle farm nearby, and that's why the burgers taste fresher.

One may argue that other fast food restaurants are better because their hamburgers cost less, and that justifies smaller meat patties, even if the patties have been frozen. However, while those customers will pay less, the quality is bad. Why eat defrosted hamburgers that are less juicy? If hamburgers aren't juicy, they're rubbery. Additionally, customers don't like burgers as small as a dime that you need a magnifying glass to locate hidden inside the bun. An hour later, your stomach growls like a tiger, so you have to stop again to buy more food. That makes no economical sense to buy two hamburgers when you could have bought one large, fresh, juicy In-N-Out burger.

In conclusion, In-N-Out offers America's best hamburgers because they make their hamburgers big and fresh. The gigantic size of the meat patty is filling. Furthermore, the hamburgers are never frozen. Fresh is best and worth the price. In-N-Out hamburgers don't get much better, except to maybe top them with onions, or whatever one pleases. That's worth the wait. So what are you waiting for? Try one!
