We did a quick overnight camping trip in October along the Allegheny Wild & Scenic River, just before the leaves turned. The significance of the rock carving is, in 1847 a family were navigating their packet boat from points north to Pittsburgh during a dry summer; the river level got so low, they couldn't navigate any more, so they spent the remainder of the summer at this spot until the river came back up and they continued their journey. Look closely and you can see the carving of the boat and the year. Join us at http://www.crossadventuring.com
