This video talks about why you need the proper mobility in order to squat with a more forward toe position. It also talks about how the popliteus on the back of the knee can get tweaked if you do it. The TL;DR is that torque at the knee will tweak that particular muscle, but keep in mind that tweaks can occur after applying a lot of stress to the area via rucking/road marching, hiking, or high volume or frequency CrossFit stuff.
