Brooklyn Park city officials began a two-day workshop on Wednesday that focuses on the design elements of light rail transit, which includes everything from sidewalks to bike lanes to plant life along the light rail corridor.
"We definitely want West Broadway to be a unique and exciting corridor for the community, a place where people have a sense of what Brooklyn Park is," said Kim Berggren, Brooklyn Park's director of community development.
This week, Brooklyn Park's design team is conducting one-on-one meetings with people who own commercial property along West Broadway.
The goal is to talk specifically about their property, and address some big picture topics about how to enhance West Broadway Avenue when the Metro Blue Line Extension is up and running.
"We're thinking about both the functional elements: the trails, the way the cars move, and the way the pedestrians move in the corridor, as well as thinking about some of those beautification elements," Berggren said. "How trees and plantings and benches and those elements can really enhance and potentially places that public art might happen long term."
Berggren said they also hope to get community input as well. The city plans to host public meetings in conjunction with the Met Council in November.
